The call comes from what looks like your bank’s number. A calm, professional voice says there has been suspicious activity and your money is at risk. The solution: move it to a new, “safe” account.
Spoofing does the heavy lifting. Caller ID can be faked, so the number on screen proves nothing. Some scammers first send a text that appears in the same thread as genuine bank messages.
Fear shuts down thinking. Urgency and authority are a powerful combination. Victims act fast precisely because they believe they are protecting themselves.
The one rule to remember
Your bank will never ask you to move money to keep it safe.

If in doubt, hang up and call the number on the back of your card — ideally from a different phone.
